Medical Director, Oncology

Position Summary
The Medical Director, Oncology will be a key leader responsible for managing and further developing the Medical Office professional staff of Oncology Nurse Practitioners conducting medical record and treatment plan review, systems input, and reporting to payer clients. This individual will ensure that optimal customer service levels are achieved while eviti implements an industry changing proprietary technology that will transform how payers and providers adhere to evidence based medicine. The Medical Office functions to assure that treatments comply with evidence-based medicine and best practices, including use of off-label drugs and clinical trials. The result is that incentives are aligned around delivery of the highest quality care to the patient. This is a pivotal role with the Medical Director as the key interface between payer clients, the treating physicians and supporting the day to day functions of eviti’s professional staff in treatment plan review. The Medical Director will also serve as the primary clinical consultant for eviti in conducting peer to peer discussions on patient treatment plans with practicing physicians. The role encompasses aspects of management, operations and leadership within eviti’s Medical Office. The focus of the role is to deliver unmatched value and satisfaction to physicians, patients and payers, to improve quality of care, to support physician payment for appropriate care and determine cost savings for the client. The Medical Director, Oncology will work closely with the executive team in the overall strategic growth of the Oncology medical program and subsequent successful translation of new products, analyses and processes into the marketplace.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of provider treatment plan reviews performed by Oncology Certified Nurses and Nurse Practitioners in concert with the eviti product
  • Provide assurance to payer clients that treatment plans are consistent with evidence-based care or represent a medically justified deviation
  • Lead the peer-to-peer sessions with physicians in a highly professional manner
  • Manage the back office operations related to medical management within the eviti support team to ensure delivery is smooth, effective and efficient
  • Build a highly collaborative Medical Office team that works effectively towards the achievement of company goals
  • Further develop internal processes and metrics to create a high performing disciplined approach to servicing clients including high quality, consistent and timely reporting within eviti-approved processes
  • Execute programs and standards that continue to improve the capability, capacity, quality and productivity of eviti’s Medical Office
  • Assist the Informatics and Content Team to ensure that the evidence-based library is updated with all recent changes at all times
  • Participate in in-house quality assurance and improvement activities, and in-house educational initiatives
  • Provide education on advances in Oncology to eviti’s clinical staff
  • Be well versed with current cancer standards of care and closely follow trends
  • Manage the strategic relationship with client medical officers and senior staff in collaboration with eviti client management
  • Identify new opportunities for Oncology products, analyses and processes and work with Sales and Marketing and Medical Informatics staff towards successful development and implementation
  • Work with eviti Sales and Marketing staff for consultation and clinical decision-making involving consumers
  • Constantly educate himself/herself and expand knowledge in high quality, cost-effective treatments
  • Become a thought leader in the field of evidence based Oncology and proactively play a thought leadership role within the Medical Oncology community
  • Required Certifications or License

  • Possess a Current Active Unrestricted Physician License
  • Board Certification in Oncology and Internal Medicine
  • Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of oncology practice experience in a community or academic setting with an acute understanding of day-to-day cancer care including clinical trial participation
  • Professional management experience in the health care, healthcare IT, pharmaceutical/biotech, or related fields is preferred
  • Experience in dealing with payers; specific work experience within managed care while not required, is ideal
  • Be adept at working with medical and IT professionals while embracing healthcare technology
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of oncology and insurance industry
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to relate to patients, medical management and staff collaborate effectively with other groups
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, creating and manipulating data in spreadsheets, and PowerPoint
  • The ability to manage changing priorities
  • Outstanding communication skills, oral and written; well-developed analytical skills
  • Decisive and proactive, with “small company” hands-on, can-do style and attitude
  • Flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
